INGREDIENTS:

  • 3 pounds pork shoulder or Boston butt roast
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Hamburger buns or slider rolls, for serving

INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1: Prep the Pork

  1. Season the pork shoulder with salt and pepper on all sides.
  2. Place the sliced onions and minced garlic in the bottom of the slow cooker or large pot.
  3. Place the seasoned pork shoulder on top of the onions and garlic.

Step 2: Prepare the BBQ Sauce

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine BBQ sauce, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, and ground cumin.
  2. Stir well to combine all the ingredients and form a thick sauce.

Step 3: Slow Cook the Pork

  1. Pour the BBQ sauce mixture over the pork shoulder in the slow cooker or large pot.
  2. Cover and cook on low heat for 8 hours or on high heat for 4 hours, until the pork is tender and can be easily pulled apart with forks or tongs.

Step 4: Shred the Pork

  1. Remove the pork shoulder from the slow cooker or large pot and place it on a cutting board.
  2. Using forks or tongs, pull the pork apart into smaller shreds.

Step 5: Coat the Pork with BBQ Sauce

  1. Return the shredded pork back to the slow cooker or large pot.
  2. Pour additional BBQ sauce over the shredded pork and mix well, coating all the pork with the sauce.
  3. Cook on low heat for an additional 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld and the sauce to penetrate the pork.
